Recently, the Housing Authority sent six representatives from different professional fields to Coventry, UK, to participate in the 2024 Offsite Construction Summit — "OFFSITE SUMMIT".
This summit, along with related exhibitions and multiple seminars, gathered experts from around the world to discuss the latest offsite construction technologies, using automotive manufacturing methods to build houses. It was a great opportunity for sharing and exchanging innovative construction ideas. The Assistant Director (Development and Procurement), Dr. Sherman YIP, also served as one of the speakers on the first day of the summit, engaging with experts from various regions to share the latest developments in the Housing Authority's Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) technology, as well as the application of related innovative technologies, including construction robots. These advancements not only enhance the quality, speed, efficiency, and safety of site work but also improve the sense of well-being and satisfaction for construction workers and technicians. This overseas exchange activity also takes Hong Kong a step further in going global and attracting foreign investment and technologies.
The pressing issues of housing demand and an aging labor force are not unique to Hong Kong; many countries, especially developed urban areas, face similar challenges. The Housing Authority will continue to actively provide affordable quality housing for the public, leveraging innovative technologies to enhance the traditional construction industry and promote sustainable development, showcasing our advantages of enjoying the strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world.
